1. Be Responsible
Nelliyampathy is primarily a Forest Area protected under various legislations, home to Wildlife and Tribal Communities and it is also visited by thousands of people each year. It is legally mandated that all visitors co-operate with Forest Reserve Personnel and abide by the Rules.
2. No Feeding of Wild Animals
Visitors shall strictly refrain from feeding wild animals in any manner. Such practices will alter the feeding ecology of wild animals and will lead to them wandering close to humans posing danger for both. In addition to being irresponsible, it is also an offense attracting fines and punishments under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
3. Be Flexible
Nelliyampathy is a Forest Reserve and NOT a Resort. The accommodation facilities are designed for visitors who want to experience simple living in untamed wilderness with basic minimum amenities. It is impossible to provide complete power backup or high-speed internet inside a forest without violating nature (which is against the spirit of conservation). Even though we will pull all stops to ensure that you have a pleasant stay with us, be forewarned that you may be visited by the occasional monkeys, wild pigs, scorpions or rodents. Guests traveling with infants and children are requested to take special note of this. Kindly cooperate with our staff.
4. Be Considerate
The forest is a pristine ecosystem, it’s not to be treated as your personal trash can. Kindly avoid littering of any kind at all costs. In addition to being inconsiderate, it is also an illegal activity. Littering inside the Forest Reserve is an offense which will attract fines and punishments as per Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
5. Cell service, Electricity and bandwidth are limited
Only BSNL networks work inside the park and that too in a limited area of coverage. It is not uncommon for the network to completely go down during power outages. Electricity supply inside the reserve is not available on a 24 hour basis and visitors are directed to take adequate precautions for such eventualities.
6. Plan ahead
Accommodation facilities fill early, so finding a place to stay at the last minute is unlikely. Groups of guests making booking in multiple accommodations in different categories of accommodations may please note that different categories of accommodations are located at different points in the Reserve. Most of them are not located close to each other. Therefore, traveling between them might be difficult and also restricted at night. Read the descriptions of different types of accommodations to see their locations within the Reserve.
7. Drive responsibly
Two and Three Wheelers are strictly not allowed inside the Forest Reserve. Limit your speed to 30 kmph and be aware of your surroundings when watching wildlife and taking pictures.
8. Stay on designated paths
Never wander away from designated roads and always follow the instructions of your guides. Wandering into the forest is not only dangerous it is also an offense under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
9. Elephants inhabit the entire park
Elephants are present in the entire area. Do not get down from your vehicle under any circumstances and always be aware of your surroundings. Contrary to popular belief, Elephants move very silently inside the forests, their presence can be detected by subtle signs which will be picked up by our trained Naturalists. It is imperative that all visitors pay heed to your guides.
10. Medical Fitness, emergencies and allergies
All visitors to Nelliyampathy may ensure that they are medically fit to undertake any of the tourism activities. Program schedules, conditions and facilities of each program are described in detail and visitors may familiarize themselves with these. Visitors may inform staff in advance regarding specific allergies to take adequate precautions. A primary health center is available in Nelliyampathy. Even though few medicines shall be available in these hospitals, visitors are advised to carry their own medicines.
11. Professional Photography/ Videography and Drones
Professional photography and photographic equipment will require payment of a nominal fee for usage inside the reserve. The payment can be made at the time of checking into the Forest Reserve. Usage of Drones of any kind will NOT be permitted inside the Forest Reserve as they significantly disturb the wildlife and environment, especially avifauna, interfere with the privacy of indigenous communities, privacy of other visitors and the natural soundscape of the reserve.
12. Infants and Children
Since Nelliyampathy is NOT a resort, children, especially infant friendly facilities may not be available everywhere.
13. Pets are NOT allowed
This policy exists to protect pets from being killed by predators like Tigers, Leopards, Bears and Dholes, to protect them from being injured by the terrain, to prevent the exchange of diseases, such as canine distemper, between domestic animals and wildlife, and to allow others to enjoy nature without the disruption of pets.
14. Dress appropriately and practice safety.

Parambikulam can get hot during summers and cold during monsoons and winter, carrying season appropriate clothing.
